Pixel Art: The Evolution of Seagull Hunts Background

I wrote this about a year ago on an old blog and decided to upload here for its upcoming release. After we release Knight Soul, hopefully we will release Seagull Hunt shortly after. (Early to mid October)

I  finally finished the background for Seagull Hunt. I spent far too long on it…probably 25 hour’s, but there was a LOT of learning happening. So I decided to go over the evolution of the background and explain what I learned.

1. The first step I took was designing the car. I was having trouble at first, but then I learned two important lessons:

  • Using reference art helps out amazingly.
  • When making something symmetrical, make half of it, copy, flip and paste. This saves time and looks better.

Knight Souls Cover Art (Looking for Help)

We’ve been working on Knight Souls for several months now and were just about finished. Now it’s time to start cover art and I’m having trouble figuring out where to go next with my current mock up.

Working on this cover art has brought a realization that I didn’t realize after all these years gaming. Almost ALL the games have some sort of unique font style for the title. Not sure what to do there, I’m probably going to have to design it manually.
